Project narrative

The owner's facilities standards favor cementitious over epoxy for academic interiors — both for its softer acoustic profile under tall ceilings and for compatibility with the original Portland-terrazzo floors in adjoining wings built in 1962.

We executed a bonded underbed system over the existing structural slab after shot-blasting and a wire-lath reinforcement layer. Total cure-and-grind cycle ran 26 days, scheduled into the summer break to avoid student impact.

The architectural seal medallion at the main vestibule was developed in our shop from a hand-traced rubbing of the original 1962 lobby floor, preserved as a thank-you to the donor family who funded the renovation.
