Regional Medical Center — Main Lobby & Patient Corridors

18,400 sq ft of seamless, antimicrobial epoxy terrazzo for a 24/7 patient-traffic environment, installed in three phased weekend pours to keep the hospital fully operational.

Regional Medical Center — Main Lobby & Patient Corridors

Project narrative

The owner specified a hard-surface flooring system that would survive gurney traffic and aggressive cleaning protocols for at least 40 years without recoating. Epoxy terrazzo was specified by HKS as the only system that met life-cycle cost, infection-control, and design intent in a single assembly.

Antonio Terrazzo executed the project in three weekend phases coordinated with hospital operations. Each pour was prepped Friday night, poured Saturday, ground and polished Sunday, and reopened to staff traffic by Monday morning. Total downtime per zone: 36 hours.

The lobby rotunda features a custom medallion fabricated from brass divider strip and four custom-blended aggregate fields — a design developed in our shop with HKS over three sample iterations.
