Historic County Courthouse — Rotunda & Corridor Restoration

Project narrative

The Texas Historical Commission required preservation of the original 1928 terrazzo wherever structurally sound. Our diagnostic walk-through and 14 core samples confirmed 96% of the original matrix could be retained — only spalled sections at three doorway thresholds needed full removal and recasting.

Three damaged runs of brass divider strip were matched against shop archives and replaced in-kind with the same 1/8"-face profile rolled by a Pennsylvania mill that still produces the period gauge.

Final re-polish moved through diamond grits from 50 to 1500. The rotunda floor — originally specified at a satin finish — was returned to its 1928 appearance after eight decades of waxed-over, dull-looking maintenance buildup.
